Easter celebration. RECREATING THE PAST: The Reverend Canon Joseph Asselin keeps an eye on Bob Ray, a donkey from the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada (DSC) in Guelph, who took part in the Palm Sunday Procession at St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church. While the donkey was involved in a procession that recreated a chapter in the story of Easter, the donkey also took some time to visit with, and be petted by, local children.(© 2010 Michael Ivanin/Metroland Media Group)
HAND-CRAFTED TREASURES: Holy Protection Ukrainian Catholic Church on Pearl Street recently hosted an Easter egg-decorating workshop. Decorating Easter eggs is a tradition in many European cultures that has been handed down from generation to generation of mothers and daughters for centuries. Colourful designs, sometimes with handwritten messages, are created by a process involving the use of multi-coloured dyes and melted wax, applied using a hand-held stylus. The wax is added between dye sequences to preserve an earlier colour layer.(© 2010 Michael Ivanin/Metroland Media Group)
