I am back with my blog updates. It is hard to believe it has been three month since I updated my blog. First I went to Europe for couple weeks and then was busy with work, and sorting and editing through 80 gigabytes of pictures and videos. I will post pictures from my trip in a few days.
One man dead after wrong way QEW crash. Burlington firefighters helped remove three men from a vehicle that collided with another car headed the wrong way in the Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW at the Fairview Street exit Monday night. With Bank Beds: The 2011 Birmingham Bank Bed Challenge raised $155,000- a total that will be matched, dollar for dollar, by the Birmingham Match through the Birmingham Family Foundation. The annual fundraiser is hosted by the Oakville hospital foundation to purchase hospital beds for Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and the new Oakvillle hospital. It sees local banks campaign for a month to raise funds and then race hospital beds in downtown Oakville to compete for various titles from fastest to best spirit on race day.

While covering Walk with Jesus, where around 1,200 students along with teachers, staff and parents got together for an outdoor Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School parking lot, a small plane flew over and made an emergency landing in an open field behind the school. At first I did not realize that the plane was making an emergency landing, I thought that there is grass airstrip just behind school, but then I saw people running into the field and screaming to call 911, that is when I realize that plane made an emergency landing. I walked to the field and took pictures. No one was injured during landing.

ATTIC FIRE SPREAD TO ROOF: Oakville firefighters douse a blaze at the Sixth Line Pub, located at 1500 Sixth Line. Firefighters were called to the building just before 4 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing smoke coming from the roof of the building. The firefighters determined the blaze was in the restaurant’s attic and succeeded in extinguishing it before it spread to the adjacent units. The fire was extinguished at approximately 4:45 p.m. No one was injured in the fire, however, damage to the building is estimated at being approximately $500,000. HAND-CRAFTED TREASURES: Holy Protection Ukrainian Catholic Church on Pearl Street recently hosted an Easter egg-decorating workshop. Decorating Easter eggs is a tradition in many European cultures that has been handed down from generation to generation of mothers and daughters for centuries. Colourful designs, sometimes with handwritten messages, are created by a process involving the use of multi-coloured dyes and melted wax, applied using a hand-held stylus. CAR DEMOLISHED: A local man somehow avoided injury when the vehicle he was driving crossed the South Service Road and slammed into a hydro pole last Friday afternoon, splitting the car in half. Two men were taken to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with non-life threating injuries following a collision at the intersectionof Dundas Street and Oak Park Boulevard. Halton regional Police said the accident occured when a 51-year-old Oakville man driving westbound on Dundas Street attempted to turn his vechile south onto Oak Park Boulevard at which point he was struck by an eastbound vechile driven by a 51-year-old Mississauga man. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE: Oakville firefighters were called to a Trevor Drive home following a report that flames had broken out in the home’s basement. Firefighters battled the blaze, which spread to the upper levels of the home, for more than an hour before eventually bringing it under control.
